World Police Cars

Over on the other side of the pond, the UK is getting set to unveil their all-new bad guy-chasing police cruiser, but unlike the new 2011 Chevrolet Caprice, which will be used in the US, the chaps from the UK have decided to crack down on their own criminals with the new Mitsubishi all-electric i-MiEV.

As soon as Ferrari unveiled the 458 Italia, people began to tweak the images, coming up with different colored versions and even a spyder variant. What if the new mid engine super car, the prancing horse could replace the raging bull as the Italian police force’s vehicle of choice, which is currently a 2009 Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia.

The only thing we would suggest is turning the stop light around so you can read it in the rear view mirror, not that it would matter too much, the Ferrari 458 Polizia would come up on you so fast, the last thing you will be looking at are a series LEDs at the top of the windshield. Running would futile, because there is no escape from a car that can do 202 MPH?

North Carolina police to use Corvette Z06 as its new police interceptor.

The Humberside Police Force have decided to trade up for a couple of eight cylinder powered four door vehicles, but these aren’t just any V8s. They have decided to replace those worn out patrol cars with the most powerful Lexus on the market at the moment, the 415 HP IS-F.

Watch out British bad guys, because the fuzz is after you, in style. Jaguar has just released their first ever, police spec XF.

Carbon Motors is introducing a model called the E7 that will be sold exclusively to law enforcement agencies. Although this concept has been around for about a year, it looks like the car is getting closer to production. While the company is still looking for investors, a prototype will begin touring the country later this month.

Coolest Google Earth Finds

Dubbed the “Badlands Guardian” by locals, this geological marvel (Google Earth coordinates 50.010083,-110.113006) in Alberta, Canada, bears an uncanny resemblance to a human head wearing a full Native American headdress–and earphones, to boot. Of course, The Guardian was produced naturally.

A synthetic wonder that can be truly appreciated only from above, this giant man-shaped lake (-21.805149,-49.089977) is located near Bauru, Brazil.

This heart-shaped island in the Adriatic became a hit on Google Earth for Valentine’s Day. The uninhabited island is only 130,000 square yards and is called Galesnjak. The owner didn’t even know how perfectly this island off the Croatian coast was until he was swamped with requests from couples to stay there.

This fingerprint can be found in Hove Park, near Brighton and Hove in the UK. It measures 38 metres around. Imagine the size of the hand.

Rhett Dashwood, a graphic designer from Australia, created the first Google Maps alphabet, featuring all 26 letters, using satellite images of natural features and buildings.

Lion, at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo located at Whipsnade, near Dunstable in Bedfordshire, England.

Some of the sights you find in Google Earth are just plain mysterious. For example, why is a fighter jet parked (Google Earth coordinates 48.825183,2.1985795) in what looks to be a residential neighborhood lot near Paris?
NOTE: our reader Guilhem told us it “must be located at a Dassault Système office. It’s an old Mirage and I know for a fact that there is a Dassault office there”, while another reader, Roland, argues “it’s a full scale model of a Mirage 2000 on a campus of the university of Paris”

This is a US Navy building in Coronado, Ca. that was unintentionally built in the shape of a swastika. Now, because of a public uproar, the Navy will be spending $600,000 to alter the shape of the building.

In the early days of Firefox, a few devoted fans wanted to generate more PR for their beloved site and so gathered a team of people in Amity, Oregon, to recreate the Firefox logo in a field; their very own fox crop.

Last year, one of the Google Earth Community members called ‘ear1grey’ posted an amazing discovery. He found a huge picture (36 miles tall) of Santa!

So here’s a giant Ipod Shuffle! It looks like a farmer’s field with a horse pen or something on it? Either that or a hard core apple enthusiast. Unfortunately, it looks like he moved the pen on the map since it was first spotted.

Google Earth doesn’t have advertising, unless you consider the corporate logos and trademarks big enough to be seen from space. Check out this massive Coca-Cola logo (-18.529225,-70.25002) etched into a hillside of Chile with 70,000 Coke bottles. Haven’t they heard of recycling?

As if Oprah Winfrey’s celebrity weren’t already big enough, an Arizona farmer built a 10-acre homage to the talk show host (Google Earth coordinates 33.225488,-111.5955).

Too late now, huh?

It’s not safe to do topless in your roof anymore. One careless sunbath and you can end in everyone else’s computer screen.

Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Longest Bridge in the World

World News No Comments

Construction on what would become the world’s longest marine causeway, connecting Qatar and Bahrain, is due to begin next year, and what a project it is: We’re talking about a bridge more than 13 miles long, costing around $3 billion.

Somewhat adorably named the Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Causeway, this massive bridge is expected to take around 4.5 years to complete and cost somewhere between $2.3 and $3 billion, but should be a great help for travel between Qatar and Bahrain. The trip currently takes more than four hours and will be reduced to 30 minutes on the bridge, and those in charge expect 10,000 to 20,000 vehicles per day to use it.

For a sense of scale, here’s a chart that compares the bridge to other very large things. Of course, I need a scale chart to tell how big a blue whale is, which sort of defeats the purpose of measuring this bridge in blue whales, but still: This is one large bridge.

Eporo: Nissan develops robots that can rove in packs

Nissan announced that it has developed robots that are able to move in a group without colliding into each other. Much like a school of fish, the so-called Eporo can also avoid obstacles standing in their way safely. Nissan claims this is the first time the world sees robots that are able to show group behavior.

The company doesn’t necessarily plan to commercialize the cute little robots themselves but aims at employing the underlying technology in their future vehicles. Obviously, the experience gained in the process of designing the Eporo could be used for vehicles that could communicate with each other to avoid collisions. Another potential side effect, according to Nissan, would be that the technology could reduce the number of traffic congestions in the future.

Nissan presented the BR23C robot car, Eporo’s first version, back in September 2008. The general public will be able to see a group of six Eporos next week during the CEATEC 2009 that will take place just outside Tokyo.

The Things That You Should Know About What Causes Warts

Generally, most wonder what causes warts, although many tend to discount their appearance as having any significance. Many see these as harmless, however they are an infection within the top layer of skin. This infection is caused by the viruses that belong to the human papilloma virus (HPV) family.

Often, this kind of virus comes into the skin through a small cut or scratch, which then lends to the rapid growth of cells on the outer layer of skin, therefore creating the wart. This particular virus is found everywhere. Every person at some point or another comes in contact with HPV by touching doorknobs, shaking hands, as well as other things.

At this time, scientists have identified more than 100 kinds of this virus that are unique. This accounts for the reason that most individuals will have a common type of wart at some point in their life. Usually most will get this kind of wart on their hands.

There are certain types of the virus that have more of an inclination to cause skin warts on an individuals hands. On the other hand, there are other forms of HPV that are more inclined to cause genital warts, however there are some that cause both.

Whenever a person contracts a wart on their skin, it means that they had come in contact with the virus, which causes the warts at some point in the past and could even be cases where that contact was months ago. The most common way to get warts is by direct skin contact with another person who has a wart. So this means that you don’t have to worry about getting them from toads.

Often when a person has an area on their skin, which is damaged or cut, the virus will more likely cause a wart. Additionally, biting fingernails, scrapes, and nicks from shaving can leave an area open to infection by the virus. This is the reason why most women have warts appear on their legs, while men have them in the beard area.

Presently, doctors are still unsure as to the reason why some individuals are more inclined to having warts than others. Some believe that certain individuals have an immune system built to fight off this kind of virus and prevents the warts from growing. Usually, this accounts for the reason that children are more prone to warts than are adults.

Children usually do not have the same immunity that many adults possess. Over the years the defense is built against the numerous kinds of HPV. Another thing that accounts for whether a person gets warts has to do with their genetic make up.

Good hygiene is a way to help prevent warts. Bad personal hygiene is one of the things among what causes warts. So this means to make sure to always clean equipment that you use within a gym, as well as wearing foot protection while showering. Doing these kinds of things will make sure that you are less likely to get warts, but is not 100 percent fool proof.
