Motorcycles are dangerous, so it’s no surprise that way to many motorcycle riders end up in wheelchairs Luckily that doesn’t mean they can’t continue riding. First of all there is always the option of riding in a side car, but you can also get special motorcycle trikes for wheelchair users.
One motorcycle trike for the disabled and handicapped is the Martin Conquest that is based on an ordinary BMW model. The back of the motorcycle can open up, so you can drive your wheelchair up a small ramp and into the motorcycle. When you are in the motorcycle, you control it while still sitting in your wheelchair.
Another motorcycle trike for the disabled and handicapped is Boss Hoss Advantage. It’s built after the same principles as the Martin Conquest, so once again you enter it from the back and steer while sitting in your wheelchair.
The Conquest is based on BMW 850 or 1150 motorbikes which have been integrated into a racing car-type aluminium body shell.
The ‘trike’ will cost £18,500 – about the same as a new family car – and Mr Martin hopes it will appeal to former bikers who are no longer able to climb into the saddle, as well as aspiring disabled riders.
The 1150cc version will accelerate from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and has a top speed of 85mph. But Mr Martin says the one he drove on a test track topped 100mph and was “as steady as a rock“.
Behold the amazing PUMA F1 Car-D designed and constructed by the Wilson Brothers for a new PUMA outlet in Chicago, Illinois. Hailing from the sunny shores of England, the three brothers, Oscar, Ben, and Luke have an equally impressive portfolio filled with similar work as above, which is a great source of inspiration for anyone who is interested in product design and 3D industrial design…
This is the terrifying moment a British photographer cheated death as an out-of-control drag racing car careered towards him out of control. Andy Willsheer kept snapping even as the 250mph car spun towards the crash barrier at Pomona Raceway in California.
Miraculously, the wrecked vehicle landed just feet away from the photographer, who escaped unharmed. The high-powered machine, capable of going from 0-60 mph in under a second, skidded off the track after its right side wheels hit an oil slick. Only the concrete barrier prevented Willsheer from being killed by stopping the car dead just three feet away from where he was standing.
‘The crowd were yelling out for him to get out of the way and he kept on taking pictures,’ said one eyewitness. ‘He really is lucky to be alive, but he must have taken some great photos.’
Safety teams shut down the engine as soon as it stopped and driver Steve Gasparrelli also walked away unhurt.
Over on the other side of the pond, the UK is getting set to unveil their all-new bad guy-chasing police cruiser, but unlike the new 2011 Chevrolet Caprice, which will be used in the US, the chaps from the UK have decided to crack down on their own criminals with the new Mitsubishi all-electric i-MiEV.
As soon as Ferrari unveiled the 458 Italia, people began to tweak the images, coming up with different colored versions and even a spyder variant. What if the new mid engine super car, the prancing horse could replace the raging bull as the Italian police force’s vehicle of choice, which is currently a 2009 Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia.
The only thing we would suggest is turning the stop light around so you can read it in the rear view mirror, not that it would matter too much, the Ferrari 458 Polizia would come up on you so fast, the last thing you will be looking at are a series LEDs at the top of the windshield. Running would futile, because there is no escape from a car that can do 202 MPH?
North Carolina police to use Corvette Z06 as its new police interceptor.
The Humberside Police Force have decided to trade up for a couple of eight cylinder powered four door vehicles, but these aren’t just any V8s. They have decided to replace those worn out patrol cars with the most powerful Lexus on the market at the moment, the 415 HP IS-F.
Watch out British bad guys, because the fuzz is after you, in style. Jaguar has just released their first ever, police spec XF.
Carbon Motors is introducing a model called the E7 that will be sold exclusively to law enforcement agencies. While the company is still looking for investors, a prototype will begin touring the country later this month.
Marussia has teased their new vehicle, the Marussia B2, for a Frankfurt premiere. The B1 was designed “in the style of a jet fighter,” and looks like it uses rivets as styling points. The darkened photos are intriguing, to say the least.
The Russian company introduced their B1 Hybrid Supercar in their home country last year. The €100,000 car uses a 3.5-liter V6, the B1 debuted with everything from a plasma video screen, to a high-speed internet connection. It was designed by Top Gear Russia star Nikolai Fomenko, a former driver in both the Le Mans and FIA GT series.
Both cars will be on stage in Frankfurt from this week on, marking the non-Russian debut of the Marussia B1 and the global debut of the Marussia B2.
Ferrari announced on Wednesday that they plan to draft in Michael Schumacher to replace the injured Felipe Massa at forthcoming Grands Prix, until the Brazilian is able to race again.
The seven-times world champion, who retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2006, will undergo a special training programme over the next few days to confirm he is fit enough to compete in next month’s European Grand Prix.
“The most important thing first: thank God, all news concerning Felipe is positive,” said Schumacher. “I wish him all the best again. I was meeting this afternoon with (Ferrari team principal) Stefano Domenicali and (chairman) Luca di Montezemolo and together we decided that I will prepare myself to take the place of Felipe.”
“Though it is true that the Formula One chapter has been completely closed for me for a long time, it is also true that for reasons of loyalty to the team I cannot ignore this unfortunate situation. But as the competitor I am I also very much look forward to facing this.”
Schumacher has not driven Ferrari’s current F60 in anger and last tested for the Italian team, with whom he won five world titles, back in April 2008
